What was it like growing up in San Diego?

It was idyllic…perfect. I hated leaving!

What are your best memories from living by the beach?

We used to go boogie boarding at Mission Beach and play soccer, too. I also went to water ski camp every summer. I never attempted surfing, but I would love to learn someday in Hawaii. But we’ll see…I’m passionately frightened of sharks – even in lakes.

What about San Diego inspired your Resort & Cruise 2013 collection? 

The surf culture when I was growing up in the mid 80s… The colors of the older cool kids’ clothes who belonged to that surf culture.
